World Teachers Day, Every Day

On World Teachers Day we asked a simple question: what do teachers really want? The answer isn’t gifts or grand gestures. It’s small, thoughtful things that parents can do all year round.

Be kind. Teachers are humans who make mistakes, just like everyone else.

Celebrate them. You love hearing good news about your child, and so do teachers. A short, positive email can make their whole week.

Respect them. Don’t join conversations that speak badly of teachers. Better still, politely put a stop to them.

Be thoughtful. Before speaking to a teacher, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inoffensive? Is it necessary? Is it kind?

Honour their time. If you need to discuss something important, schedule a meeting or write a note. A quick 20-minute chat from many parents adds up quickly.

Remember we’re on the same team. You and your child’s teacher both want the best for your child. It can feel like they’re looking out for the whole class while you’re looking out for one child, but you’re working toward the same goal.

Praise more than you criticise. And acknowledge the work teachers do, even though you may not see everything that happens behind the scenes.

Thank you to our teachers for everything you do, today and every day. 🤲
