Memories, Jackets and Balloons: Al Falaah College Matrics Bid Farewell to the Classroom
By Yaseen Aboobaker (Grade 11A)
Last week marked a momentous and deeply emotional milestone at Al Falaah College as the matric class of 2026 reached their final official day of school. With the arrival of their well-deserved study leave, these students are now transitioning into the intense preparation period required for their upcoming trial examinations. The boys held an informal photoshoot with their matric jackets, while the girls signed their names on balloons, marking their final high school memories.
The bittersweet nature of the day was perfectly captured by Deputy Head Boy Tahir Moosa, who reflected on the journey with a sense of deep gratitude. “It’s a bittersweet moment, I think,” Moosa shared, looking back at his time at the college. “I still remember our grade 8 year and all the fun we had in school. There was also the normal torture of school every day, but I mean, I don’t really think of that anymore.”
His words resonated with many peers who found themselves looking past the daily grind of early mornings and heavy workloads, choosing instead to cherish the lifelong friendships and memories forged within the Al Falaah classrooms.
As the focus shifts from the classroom to independent revision, the campus has quieted, leaving the matrics to face long hours of past papers and textbook reviews. This period of intense studying is less about routine and more about endurance, as students lock themselves away to transform years of learning into exam-room readiness.
Another Grade 12 boy commented, “Studying for trials is completely different from normal exams because now everything matters. Like I never used to study and now I’ve been grinding for hours weeks before the exam.”
Fortunately, students who need help can still call on their teachers, who are hosting online lessons for those who attend—allowing students to easily pick the subjects they are weakest in and get more personalised support.
This combination of independent grit and steady academic backing ensures that no student has to face this daunting challenge entirely alone.
The Al Falaah College Media Club extends its heartfelt well-wishes to the matric class as they enter this gruelling academic stretch. The trials are a demanding test of character, focus, and resilience, but we have full confidence that our seniors will do us proud.
At the same time, we congratulate the new Grade 11 prefect body as they take charge of maintaining the school’s high standards of discipline and spirit.
